Why Sri Lanka Must Confront Its Commercial Hate-Bait Network
I'm not a journalist. I'm posting this just out of social responsibility to create awareness on this matter and this is not targeted on any individual.
In recent months, investigative reports by The Bureau of Investigative Journalism (TBIJ), The Times, and independent creators like Christophe have shed light on an alarming cottage industry: creators in South Asia mass-producing synthetic rage-bait designed to stoke xenophobia, racism, and division across Western nations like the UK, US, and Australia. Much of this network traces directly to Sri Lanka.
Central to the coverage is Geeth Sooriyapura founder of With Soori Academy who publicly boasts of making hundreds of thousands of dollars through platform ad monetization by gaming Western audience triggers.
In one investigative exchange, when a Sri Lankan-administered page was asked why they they are doing this, the administrator gave a candid, four-word response: Only need money bro.
This is not an ideological mission; it is purely cynical economic arbitrage. Social platform recommendation engines reward high-arousal outrage, and ad payouts (CPM) in Tier-1 nations are dramatically higher than local domestic rates. Generative AI tools have made mass-producing fake protests and divisive propaganda cheap, instant, and frictionless.
What is most alarming is the scale. This is not the instance but a instance. Public groups and academy channels show thousands of participants attempting to replicate these schemes. Ex: Geeth Sooriyapura is running a channel called Facebook Monetization LK with 5K+ Followers.
While platforms like Meta bear serious blame for incentivizing this toxicity and rolling back content moderation, Sri Lanka cannot remain passive. If our digital ecosystem becomes internationally synonymous with commercial hate factories or scam, fraud rather than legitimate technology and creative talent, the fallout will affect every honest freelancer and digital enterprise in the country.
These coordinated operations warrant urgent scrutiny from domestic digital governance and law enforcement bodies before the reputational harm becomes irreversible.
PS: Since I am mentioning directly, I have already asked for a comment from Mr Geeth so far I have not heard from him anything if there is a response I will update here.
